ScorpionTrack S5
The ScorpionTrack S5 is a Thatcham Category S5 insurance-approved GPS vehicle tracker. It is designed to respond quickly to potential theft events using automatic driver recognition technology. The system includes a driver tag that is normally attached to the vehicle’s keys. If the driver tag is not detected after the vehicle ignition is switched and the vehicle starts to move, the system will send an alert to ScorpionTrack’s monitoring centre. Upon receiving this alert, the monitoring centre will call the vehicle owner to confirm whether a theft has occurred. Additionally, the ScorpionTrack S5 offers 24/7 monitoring and professional theft support. Vehicle insurers recommend Thatcham category S5 trackers because they are effective in proactively alerting to potential theft events and provoking a quick response from the monitoring team and police forces to initiate theft recovery procedures.

Automatic Driver Recognition Tag
The ScorpionTrack S5’s driver recognition system utilises a small battery-operated driver tag that can be attached to your vehicle's keys. The driver tag emits a signal that the tracking unit picks up to determine if an authorised driver is present. When the vehicle's ignition is switched on the system checks for the presence of the driver tag. If the tag is detected, it acknowledges that an authorised driver is present.
If the system fails to detect the driver tag, an alert will be sent to ScorpionTrack's monitoring centre. Personnel from the monitoring centre will contact you by phone to confirm whether a theft occurred.
The ScorpionTrack S5’s driver tags communicate with the system using Bluetooth Low Energy technology and have a battery life of approximately 6-12 months before replacement is necessary. The ScorpionTrack S5 tracker and immobiliser system comes with one driver tag, and additional tags can be purchased directly from ScorpionTrack.
Phone Tag (alternative to using an ADR Tag)
The ScorpionTrack mobile app allows you to use your mobile phone as an Automatic Driver Recognition (ADR) Tag in addition to the physical tag you received with your S5 tracker. The Phone Tag communicates with the ScorpionTrack S5 tracker like your physical tag, providing a way to identify an authorised driver. It runs in the background of your phone.
Please note that the Bluetooth signal range can be anywhere from 5-10 meters, so the ADR Tag and your phone should be kept at a suitable distance from your vehicle when it's not in use. This will prevent the system fitted to the car from picking up the signal from either the ADR Tag or your phone (when using the Phone Tag) in the event of an actual theft. An alert will NOT be generated if the system detects either the ADR Tag or your Phone Tag during an actual theft event. You can reduce the signal broadcast range of the Phone Tag to ensure your Phone Tag signal radius is not within the range of your vehicle/system by lowering the ‘sensitivity’ Phone Tag settings menu in the ScorpionTrack app.
To use this feature and for further info, please consult your product user guide upon completion of your installation.

ScorpionTrack S5 Alerts
Automatic Alerts
Once your subscription is active, your system will be monitored 24/7. In the event of theft, the tracker will automatically generate an alert that will be sent to ScorpionTrack’s 24/7 Monitoring team if any of the following conditions are detected:
1. The vehicle moves more than 150m from the last known position without the Driver Recognition Tag present.
2. The vehicle battery is disconnected (including disconnection of the tracking system from the vehicle), or the battery voltage drops significantly.
3. The vehicle moves without a consistent GPS signal.
Standard Alerts

3. Ignition On Alerts: The system can also send an alert every time the vehicle’s ignition is switched on.

FAQs
-
The ScorpionTrack S5 is a Thatcham Category S5 stolen vehicle tracking system. Its key features include 24/7 professional theft monitoring and support and automatic driver recognition. This Thatcham S5 tracker will alert and respond to various potential theft events, prompting a response from the ScorpionTrack monitoring team, which will provide professional theft support and coordinate with local police forces should your vehicle be stolen.
The two main levels of security include –
1 - Thatcham and Insurance-approved Category S5 Stolen Vehicle Tracking
Category S5 trackers, as part of Thatcham's Category S5: Vehicle Tracking Systems, are essential for high-value vehicles at risk of theft. S5 trackers offer continuous monitoring, theft support, live tracking, and an automatic driver recognition feature.
In the unfortunate event that your vehicle is stolen, the ScorpionTrack monitoring team will work closely with the vehicle owner and coordinate with the police, using direct links to police control rooms to aid in the vehicle's recovery.
2 – Automatic Driver Recognition
The standout feature of S5 trackers is their automatic driver recognition, which promptly notifies the monitoring centre of any unauthorised vehicle movements, especially during a potential theft.
What is Automatic Driver Recognition?
Automatic Driver Recognition (ADR) technology enables Stolen Vehicle Tracking systems to verify if an authorised driver is present and operating the vehicle. An authorised individual provides a form of driver recognition to the vehicle/tracker system, typically in the form of a small tag attached to the vehicle's keys, but it can also be a phone, a card, or any other item used for driver authorisation by the vehicle tracker system.
As the vehicle owner/driver is the only person who has access to the authorised driver recognition item, anyone else who drives the vehicle, such as a thief, will trigger an alert from the tracker system. The automatic part of this process starts when the vehicle's ignition is switched on. This prompts the tracker system to look for the driver recognition item. If it's found, then the system assumes an authorised driver is present. If it's not found, then an alert is generated and sent to the monitoring centre, which will respond by calling the vehicle owner/driver.
If the vehicle is driven without presenting a driver recognition item to the tracking system, the system will alert the monitoring centre. Subsequently, the monitoring centre will contact the vehicle owner/driver to determine if a potential theft has occurred. In summary, if a form of driver recognition is not presented to the tracker system when the vehicle starts moving, the system will interpret this as a potential theft event, as the vehicle is now moving without an authorised driver.
All Thatcham Category S5 stolen vehicle tracking systems must utilise automatic driver recognition in order to be accredited as a Category S5 tracker system. As a result, many vehicle insurers require their customers to have Thatcham S5 trackers fitted to their vehicles. These trackers automatically and proactively alert the vehicle owner to potential theft events, prompting a quick response from the monitoring team and activating professional theft support while liaising with local police forces. These automated processes are designed to quickly recognise vehicle theft, activating a professional response to increase the chances of successfully recovering a stolen vehicle.

-
The ScorpionTrack S5 includes a comprehensive 2-year warranty in addition to your statutory rights, designed to combat any material or manufacturing defects which become apparent within 2 calendar years from the date of first installation.
-
The ScorpionTrack S5 tracker system is identical to the ScorpionTrack S7 tracker system in terms of hardware and feature set, but there is one big difference.
The big difference is that the ScorpionTrack S5 includes Automatic Driver recognition. The ScorpionTrack S7 is unlikely to alert to an actual theft event. To trigger professional theft support from the ScorpionTrack monitoring theft support team, you would generally need to ring them directly and report the theft. With the ScorpionTrack S5, the system will automatically alert the monitoring centre if your vehicle is stolen without the driver tag. Thus providing a faster alert to a potential theft and speedier activation of theft support and a police response.
-
A subscription is required for the ScorpionTrack S5 in order for the system to operate. Telematics products (trackers) incur costs as they transmit data and communicate over the mobile network.
Airtime:
Think of a tracking system as like a mobile phone and its airtime plan; you pay for the handset/tracking device and for the data that it transmits over the mobile network to the network providers.
In our case, your subscription pays the network providers to carry your tracking system's data across their network. Your subscription is slightly more expensive than a normal airtime plan. However, a modern tracking system usually utilises multi-roaming, so it transmits data over the network provider with the best connection in each area. Your tracking device is not tied to a single network provider.
Theft Monitoring:
When you subscribe to a tracking system, you are paying for the 'airtime' for your hardware to use the mobile network to transmit data, as well as for 24/7/365 theft monitoring.
If your tracking system is Thatcham-approved (Insurance-approved), it will include 24/7/365 theft monitoring as standard. The subscription costs for these types of products are higher than for a device that is simply used to transmit location data, such as a fleet or self-monitored type of product.
Your subscription covers the cost of 'airtime' and a professional theft support service. This theft support service is available 24 hours a day to notify you of the potential theft of your vehicle.
In the event of an alert being generated by your vehicle tracking system, it is sent to the monitoring centre. Personnel at the monitoring centre are then notified on screen of the alert, and all alerts are responded to by a telephone call to the vehicle owner/driver. If a theft is confirmed, monitoring centre personnel will use direct lines into police control rooms to coordinate the recovery of your vehicle.
Summary:
As you can see, the professional theft monitoring service included with Thatcham/Insurance-approved tracking systems commands a higher subscription price compared to ordinary tracking devices used solely for locational purposes.
A professional theft support service is mandatory for a tracking system to be accredited as a Thatcham category S7 or S5 product. Both categories are used by vehicle insurers to lower their risk concerning vehicle crime and are also known as insurance-approved vehicle tracking systems.
-
We aim to have your system installed within 2-5 days.
It can take longer at busier periods of the year and of course all depends on our engineers availability.
-
Generally it takes around 45 - 90 minutes to install the ScorpionTrack S5 tracker depending on the vehicle.
-
Your ScorpionTrack S5 proof of installation certificate can be found within the ScorpionTrack app or via the web-based portal. You can download the certificate by navigating to the ‘Your Subscriptions’ page; the certificate will only be available once you have chosen, paid, and activated a subscription plan.
Once you have the proof of installation certificate downloaded, simply forward it to your specific vehicle insurer.

It’s not that we don’t agree with their claim, It’s just because we don’t believe successful recovery rate claims in percentage terms have much to do with the product itself. It has more to do with the theft situation and the quality of the installation more than anything else. What’s more important for a successful recovery is how well that product has been installed, and that’s down to your installation engineer, not the product.
What we try to make customers understand is that you could install the worst product on the market, but as long as it has been installed to a high standard, it has a better chance of recovering your stolen vehicle than the best product on the market that has been poorly installed.
When stealing vehicles, thieves are generally actively looking for and trying to disable your vehicle tracker, so ask yourself what’s more important in that situation: the product you have installed or how well it has been hidden or covertly installed.
Specialist Trackers UK prioritises installation quality, which is crucial in the vehicle security industry. We consciously try to recruit and retain only the best installation engineers to the benefit of our customers.
