ScorpionTrack S5+
The ScorpionTrack S5+ is a combined vehicle tracker and immobiliser system. It features an insurance-approved Thatcham category S5 tracker and an automatic engine immobiliser, it also includes a remote immobilisation function. The ScorpionTrack S5+ will alert you to a variety of potential theft events and prompt a response from the ScorpionTrack monitoring centre. It is effective at preventing a range of modern digital theft methods such as relay attacks, OBD attacks/CAN injection, key cloning, and more.
ScorpionTrack S5+
Key Features
-
The ScorpionTrack S5+ system has category S5 insurance-approved tracking at its core. Category S5 is the highest level of stolen vehicle tracking system accredited by Thatcham and approved by all UK vehicle insurers. The ScorpionTrack S5+ offers 24/7/365 professional theft monitoring, live tracking, journey logging, and driver behaviour scoring. For more information about tracking, please refer to the general features section.
-
The ScorpionTrack S5+ comes with advanced engine immobilisation capabilities. The system utilises 'Automatic proximity-based engine immobilisation', also known as 'No Tag, No Start.'
The automatic engine immobilisation works in conjunction with ScorpionTrack’s driver tag, which communicates using a unique Bluetooth signal. When the vehicle’s ignition is off, and the driver tag is out of range, the immobiliser activates, ensuring the vehicle is always immobilised when not in use or when you are away from it. When the driver tag comes back into range, the immobiliser automatically deactivates, allowing the vehicle to be started. This aftermarket immobilisation system effectively prevents various modern digital theft methods.
Automatic immobilisation - Automatic immobilisation of the vehicle itself takes effect after the ignition of the vehicle has been turned off for more than 4 minutes, which puts the tracker into sleep mode and activates the immobiliser. The vehicle will only start when an authorised driver possessing the driver tag is present.
Moreover, the ScorpionTrack driver tag has a built-in motion sensor that turns off its signal after being idle for 5 minutes. This feature enables the system to immobilise the vehicle even when the driver tag may still be within range.
-
The ScorpionTrack S5+ system includes basic remote immobilisation. You can access remote immobilisation through the ScorpionTrack mobile app or the web-based portal. To use remote immobilisation, the vehicle's ignition must be switched on so that the commands can be delivered and executed. Once the immobiliser is armed, the vehicle cannot be started even if the driver tag is present, as remote immobilisation takes precedence over the driver tag, which is usually used to disarm the immobiliser via proximity. To send a remote disarm command to the system, again, the vehicle's ignition needs to be on so that the system can receive and execute the command. After disarming the immobiliser remotely, you can then set the system back into automatic arming/disarming mode.
You and your device can remotely immobilise a vehicle from anywhere in the world, but someone must be with the vehicle to cycle the ignition to deliver and execute those remote commands.
Please note that since the remote immobilisation process relies on commands being sent over the mobile network, it is not recommended to send remote commands in areas with poor GSM (mobile phone signal) coverage. Sending a remote command to activate the immobiliser in an area with poor GSM coverage may make it difficult to send a disarm command to the system in order to start the vehicle when needed.
Remote immobilisation - In the event of a vehicle theft with the driver tag, the ScorpionTrack Monitoring Team can remotely immobilise the vehicle, preventing the engine from being restarted if automatic immobilisation has not engaged.
-
Automatic Driver Recognition Tag
ScorpionTrack's driver recognition system utilises a small battery-operated driver tag that can be attached to your vehicle's keys. The driver tag emits a signal that the tracking unit picks up to determine if an authorised driver is present. When the vehicle's ignition is activated, the system checks for the presence of the driver tag. If the tag is detected, it indicates that an authorised driver is present.
If the system fails to detect the driver tag, an alert will be sent to ScorpionTrack's monitoring centre. Personnel from the monitoring centre will then contact you by phone to confirm whether a theft has occurred.
ScorpionTrack's driver tags communicate with the system using Bluetooth Low Energy technology and have a battery life of approximately 6-12 months before replacement is necessary. The ScorpionTrack S5+ tracker and immobiliser system comes with one driver tag, and additional tags can be purchased directly from ScorpionTrack.
Phone Tag (alternative to using an ADR Tag)
The ScorpionTrack mobile app allows you to use your mobile phone as an Automatic Driver Recognition (ADR) Tag, in addition to the physical tag you received with your S5 tracker. This tag communicates with the tracker in the same way as your physical tag, providing a way to identify an authorised driver. It runs in the background of your phone.
Please note that the Bluetooth signal range can be anywhere from 5-10 meters, so both the ADR Tag and your phone should be kept at a suitable distance from your vehicle when it's not in use. This will prevent the system fitted to the vehicle from picking up the signal from either the ADR Tag or your phone (when using the Phone Tag) in the event of a real theft. If the system detects either the ADR Tag or your Phone Tag during a real theft event, an alert will NOT be generated. You can reduce the signal broadcast range of the Phone Tag to ensure your Phone Tag signal radius is not in range of your vehicle/system by reducing the ‘sensitivity’ Phone Tag settings menu in the ScorpionTrack app.
To use this feature and for further info, please consult your product user guide upon completion of your installation.

This service is available throughout the UK and Europe.
-
You can see your vehicle's live location via the ScorpionTrack mobile app or web-based portal. With Google Maps integration, you can see your vehicle's on-map movements in real-time.
-
All your journeys are recorded and accessible via the ScorpionTrack mobile app or web-based platform. The journey log provides detailed insights into the vehicle's movement, speed, time spent parked, and driving behaviour. ScorpionTrack's built-in gyro and accelerometer can measure driving behaviours such as acceleration, braking, and corner forces and analyse this to create a score for each journey.
-
ScorpionTrack telematic devices are equipped with a multi-frequency GNSS receiver, which allows it to gather highly precise positioning data from the GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo satellite constellations. This can enable real-time positioning accuracy to within 10 meters. Additionally, GSM, mobile based positioning can be used to locate your vehicle.
-
ScorpionTrack devices use a multi-network roaming SIM to ensure optimal network connections for communications. This type of connectivity allows the device to connect to more than one mobile network at any time, seamlessly switching between the strongest signal available in the device's location. Automatic switching from network to network enables reliable data transmission and reception, even in areas with poor signal from a specific mobile network provider.
-
Automatic Alerts
Once your subscription is active, your system will be monitored 24/7. In the event of theft, the tracker will automatically generate an alert that will be sent to ScorpionTrack’s 24/7 Monitoring team if any of the following conditions are detected:
1. The vehicle moves more than 150m from the last known position without the Driver Recognition Tag present.
2. The vehicle battery is disconnected (including disconnection of the tracking system from the vehicle), or the battery voltage drops significantly.
3. The vehicle moves without a consistent GPS signal.
Standard Alerts
As part of your ScorpionTrack monitoring subscription, you will also have access to managing and customising your vehicle alerts. This includes a variety of standard alerts and geofence alerts. Please note that these alerts are not automatically set up on your account, so you must create them manually. Based on your selection for each type of alert, the alerts can be configured to send either a text or email notification when triggered.
The range of alerts available for setup includes:
1. Battery Disconnection Alerts: If the vehicle battery is disconnected, you’ll be notified. A battery disconnection alert always triggers an automatic phone call response from the monitoring centre, provided this alert is set up.
2. Low Battery Warning Alerts: The ScorpionTrack unit monitors the vehicle’s battery condition and notifies the owner with a 'Low Battery Warning' when the battery drops below a predetermined level.
3. Ignition On Alerts: The system can also send an alert every time the vehicle’s ignition is switched on.
4. Idle Time Alerts: An idle time alert can be generated to send a notification when the vehicle has been left idle with the engine running for longer than the specified period.
5. Geo-Fence Alerts: Set up a Geo-Fence to alert you when your vehicle enters and exits a specific location.
-
ScorpionTrack insurance-approved vehicle tracking systems are actively monitored to ensure correct operation. As part of Thatcham's criteria for 'Vehicle Tracking Systems', ScorpionTrack will monitor and respond to any problems with your system that are reported through the system's daily health report.

ScorpionTrack S5+
FAQs
-
The ScorpionTrack S5+ is a combined vehicle tracking and immobilisation system designed to counter various modern digital theft methods, such as relay attacks, key cloning, CAN injection/OBD attacks, and more. The system features automatic proximity-based engine immobilisation, remote immobilisation, and automatic driver recognition technology. Additionally, the ScorpionTrack S5+ includes a Thatcham category S5 insurance-approved vehicle tracking system, which is monitored 24/7/365. The system will alert and respond to potential theft events, and the ScorpionTrack monitoring team will provide professional theft support should the worst happen.
The 2 main levels of security include –
1 - Thatcham and Insurance-approved Category S5 Stolen Vehicle Tracking
Category S5 trackers, as part of Thatcham's Category S5: Vehicle Tracking Systems, are essential for high-value vehicles at risk of theft. These trackers offer continuous monitoring, theft support, live tracking, and an automatic driver recognition feature.
The standout feature of S5 trackers is their automatic driver recognition, which promptly notifies the monitoring centre of any unauthorised vehicle movements, especially during a theft.
In the unfortunate event of vehicle theft, the monitoring centre works closely with the owner and coordinates with the police, using direct links to police control rooms to aid in the vehicle's recovery.
2 - Engine Immobilisation
Automatic engine immobilisation
The ScorpionTrack S5+ features automatic proximity-based engine immobilisation.
The automatic engine immobilisation works in conjunction with the automatic driver recognition (ADR) tag. When the vehicle’s ignition is switched off and the ADR tag is out of range the immobiliser will arm around 4 minutes later. Meaning your vehicle is always immobilised when not in use or when you are away from it. When the ADR tag comes back into range and the vehicle ignition is switched on, the immobiliser disarms and allows the vehicle to be started. This aftermarket immobilisation process helps prevent various modern digital theft methods.
Remote engine immobilisation
The ScorpionTrack S5+ system includes basic remote immobilisation. You can access remote immobilisation through the ScorpionTrack mobile app or the web-based portal. To use remote immobilisation, the vehicle's ignition must be switched on so that the commands can be delivered and executed. Once the immobiliser is armed, the vehicle cannot be started even if the ADR driver tag is present, as remote immobilisation takes precedence over the driver tag, which is usually used to disarm the immobiliser via proximity. To send a remote disarm command to the system, again, the vehicle's ignition needs to be switched on so that the system can receive and execute the command.
-
The ScorpionTrack S5+ includes a comprehensive 2-year warranty in addition to your statutory rights, designed to combat any material or manufacturing defects which become apparent within 2 calendar years from the date of first installation
-
The ScorpionTrack S5+ system is identical to the S5 VTS but with the addition of an automatic engine immobiliser.
The (+) in the product name effectively means it’s the ScorpionTrack S5, +, an engine immobiliser.
-
A subscription is required for the ScorpionTrack S5+ in order for the system to operate. Telematics products (trackers) incur costs as they transmit data and communicate over the mobile network.
Airtime:
Think of a tracking system as like a mobile phone and its airtime plan; you pay for the handset/tracking device and for the data that it transmits over the mobile network to the network providers.
In our case, your subscription pays the network providers to carry your tracking system's data across their network. Your subscription is slightly more expensive than a normal airtime plan. However, a modern tracking system usually utilises multi-roaming, so it transmits data over the network provider with the best connection in each area. Your tracking device is not tied to a single network provider.
Theft Monitoring:
When you subscribe to a tracking system, you are paying for the 'airtime' for your hardware to use the mobile network to transmit data, as well as for 24/7/365 theft monitoring.
If your tracking system is Thatcham-approved (Insurance-approved), it will include 24/7/365 theft monitoring as standard. The subscription costs for these types of products are higher than for a device that is simply used to transmit location data, such as a fleet or self-monitored type of product.
Your subscription covers the cost of 'airtime' and a professional theft support service. This theft support service is available 24 hours a day to notify you of the potential theft of your vehicle.
In the event of an alert being generated by your vehicle tracking system, it is sent to the monitoring centre. Personnel at the monitoring centre are then notified on screen of the alert, and all alerts are responded to by a telephone call to the vehicle owner/driver. If a theft is confirmed, monitoring centre personnel will use direct lines into police control rooms to coordinate the recovery of your vehicle.
Summary:
As you can see, the professional theft monitoring service included with Thatcham/Insurance-approved tracking systems commands a higher subscription price compared to ordinary tracking devices used solely for locational purposes.
A professional theft support service is mandatory for a tracking system to be accredited as a Thatcham category S7 or S5 product. Both categories are used by vehicle insurers to lower their risk concerning vehicle crime and are also known as insurance-approved vehicle tracking systems.
-
We aim to have your system installed within 2-5 days.
It can take longer, at busier periods of the year and of course all depends on our engineers availability.
-
Generally it takes around 1 - 2 hours to install the ScorpionTrack S5+ tracker and immobiliser system depending on the vehicle.
